Guidelines Concerning Labor Costs
Technical Director: The TD ("technical director") is available to not-for-profit renters for 4 hours each day, and profit renters for 2 hours each day, free of charge. A hourly charge will be assessed after that set number has been reached. If the TD is used as the Stage Manager, Designer, or crew person, the free hours do not apply and a additional fee will be charged. These services must be agreed upon in advance. The free hours rule ends when the total number of hours for the event reaches 40 or any meal penalties are incurred.

Crew: All Renters are required to hire as many crewpersons as the TD deems necessary. This is in addition to the TD or the person working in the TD capacity. The Renter should work closely with the TD of PPAC to ensure that there will be a sufficient number of crew for the show. While the TD will make every effort to keep the number of crew people to a minimum, these numbers may be increased depending on the conditions brought about by the operation of the show, the TD's experience with that type of show, and local stagehand market conditions. The Renter is responsible for all crew costs. The crew that will be hired may be trained students from Pike High School, college students or local professionals. The pay scale is listed on the Fee Schedule. The TD will make every effort to staff the crew according to the Renter's wishes; however circumstances may require the TD to hire outside of the pay level of crew that was selected by the Renter. The Renter is still responsible for all crew costs.

The crew will be scheduled according to traditional Stagehand rules:
  1. All calls are subject to a 4-hr minimum. Load-in, Show & Load-Out are 3 separate call times of 4 hours minimum each. All time worked past those minimums is paid in hourly increments.
  2. A (15) minute paid break will be scheduled after 2 hours of work.
  3. A Meal Break will be scheduled after 4 hours of work and not later than 5 hours of work. A Meal Break is 1 hour off the clock.
  4. If no meal break is provided after 5 hours of work, ALL remaining time will be paid at time and one half until a meal break is provided.
  5. If any crew person works over 40 hours in one week, all remaining time will be paid at time and one half.
  6. If any crew person works more than 6 consecutive days with no day off, all remaining days will be paid at time and one half, until he/she receives a day off.
  7. PLEASE NOTE: All union stagehands are paid overtime after 8 hours/day.
  8. Any call which begins prior to 8am is charged at time and one half until 8am.
  9. Any crew person who is working at PPAC is subject to approval by the TD. The Renter will agree that the TD has the final say in who may or may not work on the stage or operate certain equipment. The Renter also understands that the TD may request the removal of a person from the stage at any time.
  10. NOTE: The PPAC TD will make every effort to keep your crew costs down. It is the responsibility of the Renter to provide the TD with all pertinent information, including plans of the show and schedules for the event. It is also the responsibility of the Renter to keep track of time in order to avoid meal penalty charges. The Renter is responsible for communicating directly with the TD concerning all break times, especially on the day of your event. You are advised to make up a schedule and go over it with the TD before coming into the theater.
